...moments of stillness vary with rhythmical smooth movements, freeing the body in ways impossible on land

The warmth and buoyancy of the water relaxes the muscles and supports the whole spine.  With this support and without the weight of the body, the spine, joints and muscles can be manipulated and freed in a way only unique to water.

The benefits can include gentle, yet deep stretching and a release of muscular and joint restrictions, along with a state of deep relaxation, which encourages the release of stress and tensions unparalleled by any other healing method.

In a Aquatic Integration™ (AI) session the practitioner may use holds or a soft collar and leg float to achieve the most comfortable and effective positioning. This allows both client and therapist to be in a state of complete relaxation. It also gives the therapist the ability to use both hands for connection, palpation and mobilization.

Developed by Cameron West, Aquatic Integration is a new approach to hydrotherapy which combines eastern meridian and point work with myofascial release, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation and breathwork. AI is highly effective in restoring sensory perception and motor control as well as increasing range of motion and reducing muscular spasticity and has proven a profoundly effective tool in pain management.

Watsu®, developed by Harold Dull, is a passive form of aquatic bodywork/therapy that supports and gently moves a person through warm water in graceful, fluid movements. Watsu promotes a deep state of relaxation with dramatic changes in the autonomic nervous system. Through quieting the sympathetic and enhancing the parasympathetic nervous systems, Watsu has profound effects on the neuromuscular system.

Watsu helps decrease muscle tension and increase range of motion. The support of the water provides relief from compression forces in the joints. The movements through the water provide gentle stretching into all ranges for the spine and extremities while these joints are unloaded.

In a WaterDance session you are at first floated on the surface of the water and then gradually submerged and guided through a series of graceful fluid movements underwater. (a noseclip is used to prevent water from entering the nose).

Free from the effects of gravity a WaterDance session takes you on a profound underwater journey: time suspends and you float weightless in a transcendental underwater space. The effects of this work include physical release and can induce deep states of relaxation, meditation, and bliss.
