Watsu I

Watsu I introduces the basic moves and positions, the principles of water, body mechanics and a connection to the breath. Land classes introduce basic Shiatsu.

Students learn to apply all they have experienced and learned in a simple form that connects all the major positions of Watsu with long gracefully flowing transitions.

Watsu II

Watsu II expands on the repertoire of basic moves and Shiatsu points and meridians. Students will learn to become more attune to the client’s movement and explore that in the context of a aquatic session.

Watsu III Adaptive

Building on the materials covered in Watsu I, and II this course focuses on providing the student with a background in Precautions, Contraindications and the tools to apply Watsu techniques to their special needs client. Students will learn the importance of a health history and to assess their client’s flexibility and range of motion using the Body Scan Principal. Emphasis will be given to the student sharpening their awareness of any changes or needs of their client during a session, and to let this information be the guide to the appropriate moves used.

Instruction and practice time in the pool is 30 hours. Movements for potential adaptive scenarios are demonstrated then practiced under the supervision of the primary instructor and assistants. The remaining 20 hours of class time is on land.

Land classes will primarily use anatomical visual aids and kinesthetically designed exercises to assist the student in learning the progression and intent of moves. Land classes will also include: Therapeutic Dynamics, T'ai Chi mechanics, Moves for Specific Dysfunctions, how Watsu Practitioners can be utilized in a Rehabilitation Facility with insurance billing possibilities, designing a health history and a simple Zen Shiatsu sequence to deepen the students understanding of the Meridian System.

In addition to the clinical focus, land and water classes will emphasis the importance of "being with" the client and the "Breath and Heart Connection".
